Takayama Inari Shrine sits on a small hill overlooking the Sea of Japan in Tsugaru City, Aomori Prefecture. The shrine has long been a familiar sight to the local people, who worshiped it to pray for a good harvest, safety at sea, and prosperous business. The shrine is proud of its “Senbon-torii,” or thousand torii. They can be compared to a dragon ascending to the sky

This facility introduces the preservation and transmission of the Aomori Nebuta Festival and Aomori’s unique traditional culture. The Nebuta Museum introduces the origins and history of the Nebuta Festival and the history of the town, using easy-to-understand videos and artwork.

The Oirase Gorge is a tourist attraction that has been awarded two stars in the Michelin Green Guide. The Oirase Gorge is part of the Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It has clear streams, mossy rocks, and is surrounded by forest of deciduous broad-leaved trees. The 14-kilometre-long mountain stream offers a series of spectacular views wherever you walk!


Day 4 (Kakunodate Samurai ResidenceLake Tazawa)

Kakunodate is a castle town that flourished during the Edo period and is known as ‘Michinoku’s Little Kyoto’. It is a popular tourist attraction, visited by many Japanese and foreign tourists alike. The main street of the samurai residences has been designated a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and is protected as a cultural asset.

Lake Tazawa is a nearly circular lake with a circumference of approximately 20 kilometers. With a depth of 423.4 meters, it is the deepest lake in Japan. The beautiful cobalt blue surface of the lake has the power to attract the viewer.


Day 5 (Geibikei・GenbikeiMotsu-ji・Chuson-ji)

Geibikei・Genbikei

Geibikei, one of the 100 most scenic spots in Japan. Boatmen sing ‘Geibikei Oiwake’ in beautiful harmony with the sound of clear water. Genbikei  is a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of the gorge in autumn leaf colour. Known for its ‘flying dango’. Try the dango and tea, delivered in baskets from a shop on the opposite bank.

Chuson ji

Motsu-ji・Chuson-ji

Chuson-ji was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2011. It is famous for its gorgeous, golden Konjikido (Golden Hall). Like Chuson-ji, Motsu-ji is also registered as a World Heritage Site. The beautiful garden and temple remains from Heian era,   It is a rare temple in Japan with two national designations: ‘Special Historic Site’ and ‘Special Place of Scenic Beauty’.


Day 6 (MatsushimaGinzan Onsen)

Matsushima

Together with Amanohashidate in Kyoto and Miyajima in Hiroshima, Matsushima is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. Some 260 islands of various sizes float in Matsushima Bay. The beauty of the area can be seen from land and from the boat. The tour also includes a visit to Zuiganji Temple, the family temple of Date Masamune, who settled the area.

Ouchi-juku is an inn town that opened around the 17th century and has been selected as one of the country’s important traditional buildings. The streets lined with thatched-roof houses remind visitors of the Edo period, and there is also a space where daily utensils and sunken hearths that convey the customs of the time are on display, making visitors feel as if they have stepped back in time.
