Welcome to Miyagi! This prefecture is the home to Matsushima Island–a group of 260 islands covered with palm trees ranked as one of the Three Views of Japan. Sendai, the capital, has often been affectionately called the “City of Trees,” and the prefecture is known for its many fisheries and agricultural products. Zunda mochi is typically associated with Sendai, but it is common throughout the entire Tohoku region. The dessert usually employs unsweetened mochi cakes, while the coarsely mashed paste is only lightly sweetened.
