Yakimanju

Yaki Manju is a roasted sweet bun. Four soft buns are pierced with a skewer, roasted over charcoal, and coated with rich, sweet, salty miso sauce. It is sweet and savory, crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It is a well-loved snack in Gunma. (Image via Shima Onsen)

Okirikomi

The name “okirikomi” comes from the Japanese word for the motion of throwing the noodles directly into the pot while cutting them. Traditionally eaten by farmers in Maebashi, okirikomi is a hearty hotpot made with thick long wheat noodles and seasonal vegetables. The soup is miso-flavored (fermented soybean paste), so the taste is a bit sweet. Okirikomi is best enjoyed during winter. (Image via Tsunagu Japan)
